SK had his first lessons in direction from Nandkumar Raote and directed a few one-act plays and some plays on the professional stage too.

With the advent of the Doordarshan Kendra in Mumbai in 1972, new avenues opened. Shri Vasant Joglekar, veteran Director of movies introduced SK to Vinayak Chaskar, a Producer on Doordarshan. SK’s first appearance on Television was in ‘Chitravalokan’, a programme of critical appreciation of the movie ‘Janaki.’ On Television, SK’s ‘Natyavalokan’ and ‘Gajra’ were extremely popular programmes. SK left his indelible stamp on ‘Natyavalokan’ by his inimitable style as an Anchor.

Live stage interviews demand an altogether different technique. SK excelled at these. His studied and probing questions, at times mixed with gentle humour made these interviews interesting and a performance by itself.

Before writing his first play SK had entered the world of films as a script writer. Crisp and powerful dialogues were his forte as was known from his Radio plays. SK’s first movie was ‘Dhananjay’. SK never wanted Cinema as his career. He contributed to a few movies but did not take much interest in this field.

In 1981 SK left his job and decided to produce video films. With his knowledge and experience in the Electronic medium he produced some important video Films for Product promotion, Training Programmes and corporate image, etc. The technical aspects such as Script writing, Direction, Editing, handled by him were of very high standards.

With his valuable experience in the fields of Theatre, Television and Cinema SK decided to conduct various workshops on subjects related to the Theatre and Cinema and Television technique. His workshops on Compering Technique continue to receive a tremendous response.

SK shares his deep study and knowledge of the Marathi Theatre, gained during his 40 years of experience in this field, through lectures on different topics connected with the Theatre and Performing Arts.

After concentrating on writing for about 25 years SK felt like doing something as an ‘Actor’. That urge resulted in the production of a stage show ‘Mishkili’ written, produced, and directed by him. SK, along with three other co-artistes constituted the cast of Mishkili. It was a grand success. ‘Mishkili’ was presented in 25 cities across America and was appreciated by one and all. SK has been producing such shows regularly. Being an ardent music lover he also started producing Musical programmes with new concepts and novel ideas. These programmes are being presented at various centres.

SK’s contribution to the Theatre as an author and performing artist was widely acknowledged at all levels. He has won many Awards and Honours, the highest being the unopposed election as the President of the 85th Akhil Bharatiya Natya Sammelan, 2005.
